Ashford Ministry

When Ashford Common Methodist Church started in 1888, it became part of the Colnbrook and Uxbridge Station of the Home Missions District of the primitive Methodist Church (the primitive Methodists were then 78 years old).  It was the 9th church to join the station which started in 1875.  The other churches were Colnbrook (1859), Coleham Green (1868), Heathrow (1870), Uxbridge (1876), Chertsey (1878), Staines (1878), Shepperton (1879) and Addlestone (1882).  The church was then the only Methodist Church in Ashford, since Ashford Wesleyan Methodist Church started 10 years later.

In 1888, there were 2 ministries in the circuit: the Superintendent lived at Colnbrook, and the second minister at Richmond Road, Staines (he looked after Ashford Common).  The ministers moved more frequently at that time and were there for only a year.  In 1891 it became part of the first London District, and in 1915 the circuit changed its name to the Colnbrook and Chertsey Circuit and again had 2 ministers, the second one living in Chertsey.

In 1932, the Primitive Methodist Church, the Wesleyan and the United Methodist Church united to form the Methodist Church and in 1936 the Staines and Feltham Circuit was formed with 3 ministries, the minister serving Ashford Common now living in Feltham.
